Haym Salomon's Role Related
in History of Poles in U.S.
Valuable data about Poles in
America and Polish history has
been collected by Joseph A.
Wytrwal whose "Poles in Ameri
can History and Tradition" has
been published here by Endurance.
Press.
There is an interesting refer-
ence to the anti-Semitic mania
of Adolf Hitler in Wytrwal's ref-
ed or gave the revolutionary
government.
The evidence is quoted of Salo-
mon's having had at least 75
transactions with the financial
genius of the revolutionary forces,
Robert Morris, and reference is
made to Morris' notebook which
gave proof of the Polish-Jewish
immigrants' aid to George Wash-
ington's army.
The Salomon story is one of the
most detailed in this book. "Poles
in American History and Tradi-
tion" effectively emphasizes the
part played by Poles when they
became Americans.

French-Israeli Thaw Is Seen in Visa Change
PARIS (ZINS) — Israeli citizens
planning to visit France no longer
will be required to obtain an entry
visa, according to an official pro-
nouncement recently made.
This policy actually was agreed
upon more than 21/2 years ago, but
never implemented owing to the
outbreak of the Six-Day War. A
few weeks ago, the government of
Israel renewed its proposal for
reciprocal accommodation of Is-
rael and French citizens on visits
to their respective countries with-
out requiring special entry visas,
and the French Foreign Ministry
readily assented.
Diplomatic circles view this
action as having some political
significance, even though it con-
cerns a relatively limited issue.
Observers also recall that, in
October, the city of Paris honored
Israel Consul Meir Vardi with a
gold medal for his efforts in be-
half of Israel-French friendship.
Meanwhile, the French journal
"Le Nouvel Observateur" has
reported a desire on the part of
the French government to
"settle" the controversy with
Israel arising from its arms em-
bargo, by tendering a sum of
money in compensation.
The report goes on to say that
this notion has arisen after sev-
eral high-level meetings between
Jewish spokemen and leaders of
the DeGaulle party, in which the
arms embargo against Israel was
strongly deplored. Although there
is no indication whatever that

The reporter adds that this
"settlement," if it is consummat-
ed, will take place before Presi-
dent Pompidou leaves for the
United States on his official visit
at the end of February.
