Apples are a bargain. They are
piled in abundance wherever you
shop. Red and green, tart and
sweet—they can be enjoyed fresh
or be utilized in many recipes.
When you see apples, you start
thinking about apple pies and
sturdels, baked apples, or apple
compote. Here you will find a
suggestion to use them in a less
common way—fried apple rings.
The fried apples are soft, sweet,
and tender inside, and crispy
brown outside. They are most
delicious.

6 medium apples
1 cup regular flour
cup milk
0 cup butter-milk

2 eggs
1 Tbls. sugar
Pit tsp. baking powder
oil for frying

I. Mix the flour with sugar and baking
powder in a bowl. Add milk, butter-
milk and eggs. Mix well until the batter
is smooth. It should look like a thick

ee the apples and core them. Cut
them cross-wise into one-quarter inch
slices.
3. In a big and heavy frying pan heat
the oil. The oil should be about all inch
deep. Dip the apple slices into the bat-
ter so they are covered well on both
sides. When the oil is hot. fry the
apples. The rings should be browned
nicely on one side before you turn them
to the other side. Don't turn again. Put
on paper towels to absorb some of 11w
fat. Sprinkle confectioner sugar and
serve immediately.
