as division chairmen for the 1969
Torch Drive advance gifts com-
mittee.

$1,000,000 of the Torch Drive total
by soliciting gifts from select indi-
viduals and foundations prior to
the drive's official opening.
Advance gifts will go toward this
year's $28,975,000 goal, highest ever
set for a United Foundation cam-
paign.
The 21st annual UF drive gets
under way Oct. 14 and continues
through Nov. 6. Benefiting will
be nearly 200 health and commu-
nity services in Wa y , Oakland
and Macomb counties.
The advance gifts chairman is
Robert H. Kanzler, of Grosse
Point.
Vice chairman for women's
teams is Mrs. John S. Judd, of
Birmingham. Cleveland Thurber
' Jr., of Grosse Pointe, vice presi-
dent of Detroit Bank & Trust Co..

is vice chairman for men's teams.
Other women's division chairmen
serving with Mrs. Handleman are
Mrs. Edsin W. Deer of Birming-
ham, and Mrs. Lawrence D. Buhl
Jr. of Grosse Pointe.
I Division chairmen for men's
teams include Broder, Frederick
Colombo of Bloomfield Hills, an
attorney with Colombo, Vermeulen
I and Colombo, and John B. Ford
III of Grosse Pointe.
The kickoff for the three men's
divisions will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Sept. 10 in the UF Building, 1528
Woodward.
Mrs. Handleman has worked in
earlier Torch Drives as an advance
gifts solicitor and team captain.
Her husband is president of
Handleman Co.; and their 'children

of Metropolitan Detroit. vice presi-
dent of the Jewish Community Cen-
ter and Michigan United Fund,

He and his wife, Ruth, have
four children: Hugh, 14; Suzanne,
