NEW YORK (JTA) — American
Israeli Paper Mills Ltd. announced
Tuesday that it had acquired a 50
per cent interest in the Israel
Program for Scientific Transla-
tions, which it described as Israel's
largest publishing house.
The acquisition was made from
Olal Israel Investment Co. Ltd.,
for an undisclosed amount of cash.
Olal will retain the remaining 50
per cent.
American Israeli Paper is Is-
rael's largest paper manufacturer
with sales in excess of $17,000,000
annually. Its stock is traded on
the American Stock Exchange.
The publishing house, established
in 1959. has 360 fulltime employes.
including an editorial staff of 125.
Its sales last year totalled $1,430,-
000, of which 51.100.000 was in
export sales.
Formation of a major shoe
enterprise, the International
Shoe Corp. of Israel Ltd., to
promote the manufacture and
export of Israeli footwear and
allied products to this country
and to European markets, was
reported here by ATID, Amer-
ican Trade and Industrial De-
velopment for Israel, which as-
sisted in formation of the com-
pany.
The new company will assume
control of the Alma Shoe Manu-
facturing Co. and has acquired
property for construction of new
facilities quadrupling production
capacity of the existing plant. The
new group is headed by Max
Billig, New York shoe manufac-
turer.

JERUSALEM (JTA)—A light and
sound spectacle, the first of its kind
in Israel. which will relate the his-
tory of Jerusalem from the days of
King David to the present, will
shortly be performed nightly at the
Tower of David in Jerusalem's
Citadel.
Conceived by Baron Edmond de
Rothschild, who sent specialists to
create the spectacle, it will be pro-
jected about four months each
year as a tourist attraction in Jeru-
salem. Performances will be given
three times nightly in Hebrew,
English and French.
The company which will produce
the spectacle is owned equally by
Baron de Rothschild, Jean Fried-
man, owner of a French publicity
firm, the Israeli Ministry of Tour
ism and Axel Springer, the West
German publisher.
