Sisterhood Women Bring Shalakh Manot
to Aged, III Residents of Nursing Homes

As Purims came and went in
past years, the Jewish aged and
infirm in Detroit area nursing
homes too often were forgotten.
This year, an ever growing team
of volunteers brought gifts, hamen-
tashen and other goodies and led
community singing and the reading
of the megila among the residents
of 11 nursing homes.
To those homes with fewer than
six Jews in residence, the Council
of Orthodox Rabbis sent a rabbi
this week to give individual atten-
tion. All the activity is coordinated
by the Jewish Family and Chil-
dren's Service Nursing Home
Volunteer Project.
Volunteers started their visits
Monday. Members of Adas Shalom
and Oak-Woods Young Israel sis-
terhoods were at the Allan D.
Nursing Home; Temple Israel at
Sherwood Hall; Beth Shalom at
Heritage of Beverly Hills; and
Shaarey Zedek at Southfield Nurs-
ing Home.
On Tuesday the sisterhoods of
Beth Hillel, Beth Achim and' Bnai
David were at Northland Geriatric
Center, Villa Zion and Americana
nursing homes, respectively.
Arnold Home and David Nurs-
ing Home were visited Wednes-
day by Temple Beth El and
Beth Abraham sisterhoods, re-
spectively, and on Thursday
visits were paid to Bedford Vil-
la and Ingleside Convalescent
Center by the women of Temple
Emanu-El occupational therapy
volunteer team and Beth Moses.
Although the service is intended
for Jewish residents, no one is
turned away. Any aged person in
attendance, regardless of religion,
receives gifts or refreshments that
are distributed.
The Vaad Haraboniin chaplain
also visited and brought gifts to
Jewish residents at the Royal,
Edgewater, Fairlane, Cambridge
and Bancroft homes.
Sisterhood representatives to the
volunteer project's program com-
mittee are the following:
Mesdames Milton Sriro, Beth
Achim; Mac Alspector, Beth
