Coach Red Auerbach Named to Hall of Fame
By JESS SILVER
(Copyright 1969, JTA, Inc.)
Arnold (Red) Auerbach, who has
more victories to his credit than
any other coach, has been elected
to the Basketball Hall of Fame.
The general manager of the Bos-
ton Celtics will join Nat Holman,
Barney Sedran, Dave Tobey and
Len Sachs when he's enshrined in
April.
Another great basketball coach,
Bernard (Red) Sarachek, has be-
gun his 25th year as head coach at
New York's Yeshiva University.
He hopes to better last season's
7-14 record. Big men for the
Mighty Mites are sophomore Stu
Poloner, 6-3, of Teaneck, N.J., and
senior Ray Aboff, 6-3. of Elizabeth,
N.J. Poloner set a freshman rec-
ord last year with 443 points.
Other top men include freshman
Rich Salit, 6-0, of Brooklyn, N.Y.;
senior Dave Hershkovits, 5-10, of
Brooklyn, N.Y., and freshman
Harold Peri, 6-2, of the Bronx.
Yeshiva's biggest victory in the
early going was a 57-41 drubbing
of CCNY. Poloner hit for 15 points,
while Aboff put in 13 points and
Salit got 12. The Mighty Mites do
a great job although they carry
a heavy work load and lack a
home court.

Jerry Domershick is CCNY's
new varsity coach. He moves from
freshman coach to head coach in
place of Dave Polansky who is on
sabbatical leave. Domershick play-
ed his basketball at CCNY and
was the Beavers' only three-time
captain.
Ted Horwitz, another CCNY
alumnus, has become the fresh-
man coach. He spent six months
in Israel last year coaching 16
and 17-year-old boys at the Mac-
cabi Sports Club in Tel Aviv.

New York City's two new educa-
tional institutions, both named for
distinguished Jews, have Jewish
athletic directors: Mike Fleischer
at Herbert H. Lehman College and
George (Red) Wolfe at Bernard
Baruch College. Fleischer former-
ly coached basketball at Hunter
College, and Wolfe performed at
St. John's of Brooklyn and for 15

in Fascist's Interview
(Direct JTA Teletype Wire
to The Jewish News)
TORONTO - The general man-
ager of the publicly owned Cana-
dian Broadcasting Corp. has con-
ceded that the recent appearance
of the British Fascist leader Sir
Oswald Moseley on a television
show was a "bad error in judg-
ment" and "inappropriate." The
CBC official, Eugene Hallman,
wrote to Louis Herman, chairman
of the Canadian Jewish Congress-
Bnai Brith Community Relations
Committee, in reply to a telegram
from the latter which had called
the Moseley appearance "dis-
graceful."
Hallman wrote that CBC was
"naive and misguided" to assume
that Moseley's recent book and
public appearances in the United
Kingdom would result in anything
but an effort on his part to justify
his record as a Fascist."
But Hallman took exception to
part of Herman's telegram which
accused the CBC of having given
"aid and comfort to purveyors of
hate" in the past and urged it to
"immediately review program
policies to eliminate publicity and
platforms for racists."
The CBC official wrote that he
would not wish to bar from the air
individuals whose records or views
may be considered reprehensible
to many Canadians. "We cannot
impose a kind of self-censorship on
our media without putting into
jeopardy the right of all signific-
ant points of view to be heard and
discussed, popular, unpopular and
sometimes profoundly distasteful,"
he said.

NEW YORK (JTA)-A depart-
ment of five lawyers - a demon-
stration project which is described
as the fir.st of its kind in the United
States - operates in the Monte-
fiore Neighborhood Medical Care
Center in the Bronx to battle
aspects of life in the slums which
are considered related to illness.
Bad housing, bad sanitation and
ignorance among the poor about
available health services and how
to get them are among those as-
pects. Dr. Harold B. Wise, director
of the two-year-old federally-
financed health center, said that
about 25 per cent of the center's
13,000 patients have been helped
by the five attorneys. The health
center is financed by a $4,500,000
grant from the Office of Economic
Opportunity. It has a staff of 265
