French Women's Group
Joins International Council

CLEVELAND (JTA) — Coopera-
tion Feminine, an organization of
French Jewish Women, has joined
the International Council of Jewish
Women, it was announced here by
Mrs. Ronald Brown, president. The
worldwide organization now has 26
affiliates in 22 countries around
the world, representing more than
600,000 members.
The French organization, estab-
lished under the aegis of Fonds
Social Juif Unifie, the French Jew-
ish central welfare organization,
has as its major aim the pursuit
of a more active role for Jewish
women in domestic as well as in-
ternational affairs. The president
of Cooperation Feminine is Mrs.
J. L. Treves.

Israel's growing fashion sophisti-
cation, with emphasis on high-
quality workmanship, will be in
evidence in the Hadassah fashion
show and Eye-Bank Affair 12:30
p.m. Jan. 14 at Northland Theater.
It is being presented by the
Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of
Hadassah, Women's Zionist organi-
zation. Ron Eliran, Israeli singer
and guitarist, will also be featured.
The collection, just arrived from
Israel, is entitled "Seligsberg:
Fashion Career-Maker." It fea-
tures 23 coats, suits, dresses and
gowns created and executed by
fashion department students of the
Hadassah Alice Seligsberg Compre-
hensive High School in Jerusalem.
This high-fashion collection is noted
for its use of ancient Oriental
handwork skills used in modern,
jewel-encrusted and other delicate
traceries. Seligsberg graduates
become the catalysts of Israel's
growing fashion and export busi-
ness. -
Mrs. Jack Abramson, chairman
of the day, announced that Hadas-
sah's own members will model.

The Women's Orthodox League
and Mikva Israel, groups further-
ing education in the laws of family
purity and the maintenance of the
mikva in Oak Park, will hold their
annual banquet 6:30 p.m., Jan. 26
at Cong. Shaarey Shomayim.
Proceeds will be used for the up-
keep of the mikva (ritualarium)
which serves Toledo, Windsor, and
other cities near Detroit, as well
as the metropolitan area. Presi-
dents of the two groups are Mrs.
Leib Bakst and Sam Shoenig.

ored on their 50th wedding an-
niversary with a dinner-dance
given by their children at Cong.

The Frankels, who exchanged
marriage vows in 1918 in Russia,
are the parents of Mr. and Mrs.
Bob Greenberg of Lakewood,
Calif.
Among the guests were Mr. and
Mrs. Oscar Frankel (he's older
brother of the bridegroom) and
Mrs. Clara Schwartz, a niece, all
of New York. Mrs. Schwartz was
present 50 years ago at the Frank-
els' wedding. Other out-of-town
guests were Mrs. Nathan Goren,
Mr. and Mrs. Willie Goren, Mr.
and Mrs. Sidney Weiss, Mr. and

Cheryl Chapin, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Chapin of Mark

Anthropologist Ben Dor
to Look at Shtetl Life
in Oneg Shabat Talk

Anthropologist Dr. Shmuel Ben
Dor will lecture at an oneg Shabat
of the Sholem Aleichem Institute
8:30 p.m. Jan. 10.
His topic will be "An Anthropolo-
gist's Look at the East-European
Shtetl."
Dr. Ben Dor, a native Israeli, re-
ceived his doctorate in anthropol-
ogy from the University of Minne-
sota doing his field work with the
Eskimos of northern Canada. In
recent years, he has extended his
studies to East European Jewry
and is at present lecturing at
Wayne State University on that
subject. He is also a faculty mem-
ber of the United Hebrew High
School and the Midrasha, having
majored in Israel in biblical stu-
dies.
There will be readings and songs
to illustrate the lecture. Refresh-
ments will be served. The lecture
is open to the public.
