Three Conservative Day
Schools Opened This Fall

NEW YORK (JTA)—Two elem-
entary day schools and a day high
school were opened at the start of
the current academic year to bring

under Conservative sponsorship,
with a total enrollment of 4,725
pupils. The Solomon Schechter
High School in Brooklyn is the
first day high school under Con-
servative auspices.
The new day primary schools
are the Solomon Schechter Day
School in New London, Conn.,
which has started with a nursery
and an enrollment of 12 children;
and the Akiva Academy of Los
Angeles, which has 42 children in
two nursery branches and a kin-
dergarten, according to the United
Synagogue Commission on Jewish
Education. The Brooklyn high
school has 31 students. Six of the
schools are in Metropolitan New
York City, two are on Long Is-
land, one in Westchester, three in
Canada and the rest in other
states.
