JWV is a veterans' group with a
difference. Do we need veterans'
associations? Some think not. Some
of them are apparently interested
in perpetuating certain privileges.
The Jew perpetuates responsibili-
ties.
But the Jewish War Veterans
group fills other needs. First, in
this as yet imperfect world, anti-
Jewish animus abides.

Among the magnificent arld
rare works of art that grace
the museum are:

The Menorah; 500 years of
Jewish history are burned into
this giant menorah dramati-
cally displayed in the Hall of
Heroes. Looted from Hungary
by the Nazis and later recov-
ered, it stands as a proud re-
minder of the indomitable
Jewish spirit and the heroic
achievements of Americans of
the Jewish faith.

The Eternal Light, a superb
hand-wrought lamp, looted
from a Hungarian Synagogue
by the Nazis and recovered
by American Occupation For-
ces. This proud symbol graces
the main chapel of the Shrine
burning in memoriam for
those who paid the supreme
sacrifice.
Also displayed:
A 300 year old Spice Box

used in the Avdala Service; a
Yad, created by a master sil-
versmith in Germany; a Cha-
nukah Menorah, 400 years old.
Some items on loan from the
Jewish Theological Seminary.
The facade of the Shrine is
graced by three stained glass
windows illustrating the Bib-
lical theme of beating swords
into plowshares and spears
into pruning hooks.

is our right, LET US ALL FLY

Dial direct.

Want to be a wise moneysaver? Then
just dial your Long Distance calls direct
instead of placing them Person-to-Person.
It's one way to cut your phone bill if you
are reasonably sure the party you are
calling will be there. And it's easy, too.
Just Olaf "1", then the Area Code, if it's
different from your own, and the number
you want.
For an idea of how much you can save,
here's an example. A 3-minute Person-
to-Person call between Detroit and
Cincinnati costs $1.30 at the day rate. Dial
direct Station-to-Station and that same
call costs only 85?. You pocket the 34 per
cent difference.
So be smart. Give a hoot about savings.
Dial Direct. It's the moneysaving way to
call Long Distance.

defense agencies. Each plays an
important role.
BUT WHEN THE HONOR OF
THE JEW IS INVOLVED, few
aeencies are more effective than
JWV.
THAT GROUP makes everyone
conscious of the fact that Jews
have offered their lives for their
country. That country, therefore,
ought to adhere more closely to
the ideals for which these men
were prepared to die.
The presence of ex-Jewish GI's
has a sobering effect on govern-
ment officials.
The leadership of JWV has de-
manded that our government not
capitulate to Arab demands.
It has spoken out strongly against
Russian and Polish anti-Semitism.
It is a great bulwark against
native anti-Semites whenever they
come out of their sewers.
We are fortunate in this country
that our men have been willing to
offer themselves to the defense of
democracy. We are also fortunate
that many of them feel that the
fight for decency and Jewish dig-
nity must continue until the stars
and stripes are free from the threat
of bigotry and inequity.
