The lack of printed material for
the teaching staffs of Jewish day
care institutions set up by JDC in
various developing countries was
what prompted the organization to
publish the handbook, according to
Miss Peters.
Although the handbook was de-
signed specifically for Jewish day ,
care centers in developing coun-
tries there has been a surprising
demand for copies from interna-
tional agencies in England, France
and America, as well as from
members of the American Peace
Corps in many parts of the world.
The JDC day care program en-
compasses 18 kindergartens in
Morocco, Tunisia and Iran, with a
total enrollment of 2,400 children.
Shortly after the manual ap-
peared in 1967, the U.S. Peace
Corps reprinted an edition of 300
copies for distribution to its work-
ers in undeveloped countries.
UNICEF has also requested and
distributed copies.
The latest institution requesting
the manual is the University of
Akron, which ordered 80 copies
for the 1968 Head Start Training
Workshop.
People who can't see any deeper
than the paint are sometimes
fooled by the finish.
