Norris Compiles Personal History
Volume on Amity Award Winners

Interfaith Group Presses
for U.S. Airlift to Biafra

A personal history of emerging
human relations in Detroit, as seen
through the eyes of 21 recipients
of the Amity Award of the Detroit
Women's Division of American
Jewish Congress, is being compiled
under the direction of Dr. Harold
Norris, according to Mrs. Albert
Silber, president of the local worn-
en's organization.
Drawing upon such hitherto un-
published material as acceptance
speeches by Amity conferees,
award citations, resolutions by
state and local legislative and ad-
ministrative bodies, and other
memorabilia, the book, according
to Dr. Norris, will appropriately
reflect the meaning of the award
as it is understood by those who
seek to implement the ideals for
which it stands.
Amity recipients have included,
in addition to Dr. Norris, the Right
Reverend Richard S. Emrich.
Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of
Michigan; Msgr. Clement H. Kern;
Rabbi Leon Fram; United States
Circuit Judges Wade H. McCree,
Jr., and George C. Edwards; Sena-
tor Philip A. Hart; Mayor Jerome
P. Cavanagh; William T. Gossett,
president of the American Bar As-
sociation; John C. Dancy, retired
director of the Detroit Ur b an
League; and the noted poet, Edgar
Guest.

Representatives of the commit-

leading religious, interracial and
humanitarian agencies, called on

sion of the award to introduce a
joint resolution into the House of
Representatives in tribute to Dr.
Norris, the 20th Amity conferee,
and to the Detroit Women's Divi-
sion for making the presentation.
"We believe this collection in the
form of a reader will be of service
to the people of Michigan," com-
mented Mrs. Robert. Rosenbush,
chairman of the Amity Award com-
mittee, "for the award has recog-
nized the deeds of many individu-
als who have worked to improve
conditions for all of Michigan's
citizens."
