.Ian. 29. will focus on "Ethics in
the Modern World: Can They Be
Maintained?"
Moderator will be Common Pleas
Court Judge ,George D. Kent, a
member of the board of trustees of
Cong. Ahavas Achim.
Dr. Seymour J. Cohen. rabbi of
the Anshe Emet Synagogue in Chi-
cago, will explore the manifold
problems confronting ethical Juda-
ism in the contemporary world.

At the art exhibition sponsored by the Detroit Habad-Lubavitch
movement, the painting of the Lubavitch Rebbe, Rabbi Menahel M.
Schneerson, by Rabbi Chenoch Liberman, was greatly admired. At
the painting (from left) are shown the world famous sculptor. Jacques
Lipchitz; the painter Chenoch Liberman; and the leader of the
Detroit Ilabad movemnt, Rabbi Berl Shemtov, The exhibition con-
cluded Sunday at the Community Arts Exhibition Hall of Wayne
State University.

Romanian Chief Rabbi
Reports on Religious,
Cultural Life of Jews

NEW YORK (JTA)—Dr. Moses
Rosen, chief rabbi of Romania, re-
ported here that there were 100,-
000 Jews left in Romania. Of
these, he sold, 50,000 are in Bucha-
rest and the balance in approxi-
mately 75 to 100 communities
throughout the country. There
were 400,000 Jews in Romania at
the end of World War II.
There is a Yiddish theater in
Bucharest, which is supported by
the Romanian government. There
is also a publishing house for Yid-
dish books. In 1967, the Federa-
tion of Romanian Jewish communi-
ties published a Hebrew calendar,
which had a sale of over 12,000
copies. The federation also pub-
lishes a semi-monthly newspaper,
which is printed in three languages
—Romanian, Hebrew and Yiddish.
It has a circulation of 10,000
copies.

Rabbi Cohen is immediate past
president of the Synagogue Council
of America and former secretary
of the Rabbinical Assembly, na-
tional body of Conservative rabbis.
A graduate of Yeshiva University,
Rabbi Cohen was later ordained at
the Jewish Theological Seminary
Before his election to the pulpit of
Anshe Emet, he served as rabbi of
Cong. Bnai Israel in Pittsburgh,
received his PhD in economics
from the University of Pittsburgh
and later served as an instructor
on the faculty.
While at Bnai Israel, he be-
came the first rabbi to be ap-
pointed general chairman of
Pittsburgh's Allied Jewish Ap-
peal. Rabbi Cohen has traveled
to Europe and Israel extensively.
Joining Dr. Cohen as panelists
will be Henry Loeb, senior vice
president and director of Loeb,
Rhoades & Co., prominent invest-
ment firm and member of the New
York Stock Exchange, and Meshu-
lam Riklis, president of the Mc-
Crory Corp. and well-known Wall
Street investor.
