Canadian Parley Urged
to Spur Faith Dialogue

MONTREAL (JTA) — Canada's
first conference of Catholics and
Jews was told Monday that this
was the time to increase Jewish-
Christian dialogue, not to reduce
it because of disappointment with
the failure of the church to react
to the threat to Israel's existence
last May and June.
Addressing a Judeo - Christian
institute at Loyola University here,
Joseph L. Lichten, director of
intercultural affairs of the Anti-
Defamation League of Bnai Brith,
noted that "Christian-Jewish en-
counters are the channel to true
understanding." He said they "can-
not be jeopardized because of one's
specific issue, however grave."
The issue itself—in this case, Is-
rael and the world Jewish response
to it—he said, must be included in
the dialogue.
The institute was co-sponsored
by Loyola and the Bnai Brith
ADL office here. About 250 clergy
and laymen attended its sessions.
