Vietnam Rifts May Cut
Aid to Jewish GIs
WASHINGTON, D.C. (JTA) -
Sanford Solender, executive vice
president of the National Jewish
Welfare Board, warned here
against allowing controversy over
the Vietnam war to diminish Jew-
ish communal services to Jewish
men and women in uniform.
Solender told the annual meet-
ing of the Bnai Brith commission
on community and veteran services
that individual "attitudes on the
Vietnam war are irrelevant-and
must be treated that way-to our
communities' responsibilities t o
provide Jewish resources to Jews
in military service."
He said that public dispute over
the war has heightened the need
for morale-building and religious
activities among troops "because
sharp differences translate them-
selves into personal doubts and
concerns for many soldiers."
British Rabbi's Home
Attacked at Night
LONDON (JTA)-A hand gre-
nade was thrown into the home of
a Brighton rabbi while he and his
family slept Sunday night, cap-
ping two weeks of harrassment
and threats of violence from uni-
dentified parties.
The grenade was thrown through
a window in the house of Rabbi
Bernard Braunstein, 48, damaging
walls, floors, ceilings and furniture,
but causing 'no injuries to the
rabbi, his wife or their six chil-
dren. The incident occurred short-
ly after police, who have been
guarding the house, went off duty.
According to the Braunstein
family, a slab of concrete was hurl-
ed through a front window of the
house a week ago, and they have
been subjected to threatening tele-
phone calls day and night and to
at least two visits by men who
threatened violence.
Police have a description of one
of the callers and are searching
for him.
