the Labor Zionist Institute.
The committee of Landsman-
shaften for Jewish National Fund,
of which the late Mr. Burnstein
was a founder, has asked the
organizations of which the deceased
was a member of many years
standing, to join in making the ar-
rangements for the Memorial
tribute.
Members of the committee deem-
ed the work and dedication of the
late Mr. Burnstein "exemplary and
as an invaluable contribution to
achievements of the folks organiza-
tions, to the development of the
Jewish community and Israel."
In addition to the committee for
Landsmanshaften, the deceased
was a prominent member of,
among others, Beth Aaron Syna-
gogue, Chechonover the Brisker-
Mlaver, Br. 114 of Farband L.Z.O.,
and was actively associated with
these groups efforts in behalf of
the Allied Jewish Campaign, and
Israel Bonds.
Mrs. Louis Levine
Rae Levine, wife, of prominent
Labor Zionist Louis Levine and
herself active in the movement,
died July 20 at age 67.
Mrs. Levine, 20500 Annchester,
was born in Israel and lived in
this country 46 years. She was
active in Pioneer Women Club
Two, Cong. Beth Moses, Pinsker
Aid Society and its auxiliary,
Caroline Friendship Club and the
Jewish National Fund.
Besides her husband, Mrs.
Levine leaves a daughter, Mrs.
Irving (Bina) Young; a brother,
Shabtai Subar; three sisters, Mrs.
Morris Subar, Mrs. Israel Subar
and Mrs. Zev Prusak, all of Israel;
and three grandchildren.

Dies in New York; 81
NEW YORK (JTA)—Judge Jon-
ah J. Goldstein, prominent figure
in the New York Jewish commun-
ity and president of the Grand
Street Boys Association, died July
23 in Bethlehem, N.H. He was 81
years old. He had retired from the
General Sessions bench 11 years
ago.
A native of Canada, he was
brought to New York City at the
age of six and was raised on the
lower East Side. He was active in
many New York welfare activities
and served on the board of many
Jewish institutions. He was an
unsuccessful candidate for the
mayoralty in 1945.
Dr. Frances Medow
Dr. Frances Medow, a retired
Detroit chiropractor, died July 19
in Guadalajara, Mexico. She was
53.
Dr. Medow, 18433 Stoepel, re-
tired in 1952 when she married
husband, Nathan. A graduate of
Carver Chiropractic College in
she practiced
Oklahoma City,
under her maiden name, Sherman.
She was born in Welland, Ont., and
lived in Detroit 48 years.
Besides her husband, Dr. Medow
is survived by her mother, Mrs.
Ida Sherman; three •3rothers, Leo,
Carl and Earl Sherman; and three
sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Jacobs,
Mrs. Frank (Evelyn) Ditkoff and
Mrs. Charles (Freda) Landen. In-
terment Detroit.
