Anti-Semitism Felt in Germany Austria

,

(Continued from Page 1)
From Stuttgart it was reported
that a 40-year-old schoolteacher,
Dietrich Schuler, was sentenced to
five months' imprisonment there
for glorifying Hitler and attacking
democracy. Schuler had been con-
victed of committing hostile acts
against - the West German- Consti-
tution by wraing in a pamphlet
that "HitleriSth is Europe's best
chance."
Reappearance of anti-Semitic
activity in Austrian universities
was the subject of a conference of
university, professors held in Vien-
na last weekend. It was pointed
out that although there are now
only 40 Jews in all this country's
institutions of higher learning,
steps must be taken to halt bigotry
against them.
The conference adopted a resolu-
tion stating that racial discrimina-
tion and anti-Semitism cannot be
tolerated at universities, and that
teachers are resolved to combat
these evils.
The Vienna Jewish community
Sunday marked the 25th anniver-
sary of the death of famed novel-
ist Stefan Zweig, born here in 1881,
who ended his life in exile in Brazil
in 1942, when he believed Hitler
would conquer the world.

Neo-Nazi Literature
Appears in S. Africa
JOHANNESBURG (JTA)—South
Africa's security police are prob-
ing the distribution in this country
of neo-Nazi literature, most of it
emanating from the American
Nazi Party in the United States,
and some from French sources, it
was revealed here Sunday.
It is believed that there are Nazi
cells in South Africa that maintain
contact with Cohn Jordan's Fascist
Party in Britain, as well as with
Nazis in South America and in
Europe.
The identified neo-Nazi literature
has been traced to American
sources led by George Lincoln
Rockwell and to an anti-Semitic
source in Paris which publishes a
pamphlet by a man who calls him-
self George Ross Ridge and claims
to be "an American professor in
exile."
According to police authorities,
informants have said that about
a third of the members of the Nazi
cells in South Africa are of German
origin.

government had proposed a four-
point program in an effort to in-
fluence the Arab states to resume
diplomatic relations with West
Germany. Those relations have
been suspended since the establish-
ment'of West German diplomatic
relations with Israel.
According to a report in an
Egyptian weekly, Akbar el Yom,
received here and widely reprint-
ed by the German press, Bonn is
supposed to have offered a pledge
not to deliver any arms to Israel,
not to conclude another repara-
tions agreement with Israel, sup-
port the "rights" of the Arab refu-
gees and not to interfere in the
international affairs of any Arab
state.
The official German source
pointed out' that the points about,
arms to Israel and about repara-
tions are "meaningless," since
there are no German arms de-
liveries to Israel and the German
reparations have long since been
ended "and nobody talks about
prolonging them."
It was noted here that official,
West German circles have indi-'
cated many times that the gov-
