founders of the Jewish Community
Council here and served on its
executive committee. He was a
member of the Zionist Organization
and of the Detroit Historical So-
ciety. •
He had come to Detroit from
Monroe, where he practiced ac-
countancy, during World War I,
hoping to enlist in the Jewish
Legion. Upon coming here he was
informed that Austro-Hungarian
ex-officers like him were being re-
jected for the Jewish Legion and
he remained in Detroit.
He was president of Pisgah
Lodge of Bnai Brith, president of
Bnai Moshe, headed the dedication
committee when the present Bnai
Moshe building was completed and
was active in numerous other of-
ficial capacities in the synagogue
and Bnai Brith. He was an avid.
reader and was deeply interested
in art and sculpture.

at age 85. He was a member of
the Kosher Butchers Association
of Detroit and the Bereznitzer Aid

of Hebrew Teacher
Ida Becker, widow of retired
Hebrew teacher Samuel A. Becker,
died March 23, ten months after
her husband's death. She was 91.
Like her husband, Mrs. Becker
was active in the Jewish National
Fund, having been a pioneer
worker in the movement. They
were both members of Cong. Bnai
