Palesti ne Republic
Projected by U.S.,
Arab Paper Says

TUNIS (ZINS) — The Arab
newspaper Al Nahar, appearing in
Amman, the Jordan capital, re-
ports that the U.S. government has
drafted a plan which calls for the
severance of the west bank of the
River Jordan from the Jordanian
kingdom and its establishment as
a Palestinian Republic.
This newest republic, the paper
further alleges, referring to so-
called reliable sources, would be
granted access to Haifa, which is
to be transformed into an inter-
national port. The report further
says that the United States will
sponsor the creation of a federa-
tion of the new Palestinian Re-
public and Israel.
It further alleges that the U.S.
State Department is convinced of
obtaining the consent for this plan
from Jordan and Israel, since
under this plan King Hussein
would be able to rid himself of
the Palestinian refugees who are
threatening his throne, while Is-
rael will achieve the longed for
peace with a neighboring Arab
state.
Should King Hussein call for
U.S. aid in the event he will con-
sider himself to be in serious
danger of being dethroned, such
aid will be promptly forthcom-
ing. The United States will act
similarly as in the case of Leba-
non by landing troops from the
Sixth Fleet.
(This is reported by the news-
paper Al Liva appearing in Beirut,
which says that assurance to this
effect was received from Presi-
dent Johnson in a communication
transmitted to the king through
the U.S. ambassador in Jordan.)

Mrs. °Harry L. Jones, chairman of
the UJA National Women's Divi-
sion, and Phillip Stollman, chair-
man of the UJA National Council
of Congregations, will speak.
