Bank Cancels Order That Would Withhold
Pay for Jewish Employes Absent on Holidays

PHILADELPHIA (JTA) — A
Philadelphia bank has canceled
an order withholding pay for
Jewish employes not reporting to
work on Jewish holidays. The
Western Savings Fund Society, in
announcing the withholding order,
had said it was doing so in line
with a federal government ruling
that payment for such holidays-
not-worked was "discrimination in
reverse."
In making the cancelation known.
Townsend Munson, bank president,
said the bank had been advised
wrongly about the meaning of the

Judith Gail to Stanley Robert Ro-
sen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Irving
Rosen of New York.
Miss Beresh is a graduate of

education. Her fiance is a graduate
of Michigan State University.

JACOB GLATSTEIN, noted Yid-
dish poet, was presented here with
the 1966 H. Leivick Award for Jew-
ish literature, given annually by
the Congress for Jewish Culture, at
an impressive gathering at the
Statler Hotel attended by more
than 600 Jewish writers, actors and
persons active in promoting Jew-
ish culture. The persentation of the
$1,000 award coincided with Glat-
stein's 70th birthday and with the
publication of a new book of his
poetry under the title "A Yid Fun
Lublin." The book was published
by the Cyco Farlag, which spe-
cializes in the publication of Jewish
books.

Montgomery Ward District Gen-
eral Manager S. D. Ward an-
nounced the promotion of STAN-
LEY HART to store manager of
Ward's full-line retail store at the
regional shopping center, Gratiot
at 15 Mile Rd. A Wayne State Uni-
versity management g r a d u a t e,
Hart, 38, joined Montgomery Ward
in 1957. He was metro-district fash-
ion manager for the 12-store group
prior to this recent promotion. He
resides in Livonia with his wife
Franceen and three children. He is
a member of Temple Beth Am.

The comptroller of the currency
has issued a charter for the new
First National Bank of Warren,
now operating in a temporary
building on Van Dyke Ave. just
south of 13 Mile Rd. in Warren.

and HARRY GLASSGOLD were
winners in the 56th Michigan
Artists Exhibition, on display
through December at the Detroit
Institute of Arts. Stross won the
"Group 17" award of $50 for a
photo, "Symbol." Glassgold re-
ceived the $50 Lou Tendler Mem-
orial Award for his photo.

More than 2,000 delegates to the
annual West Coast conference of
the Israel Histadrut campaign paid
double honor Monday to JULIUS
FLIEGELMAN of Los Angeles, at
the- same time voting for two sep-
arate campaign quotas, each for
$500,000. The delegates set a reg-
ular campaign quota of $500,000
and pledged another $500,-
000 to the American Histadrut
Development Foundation. Fliegel-
man was reelected Pacific Coast
president of the Israel Histadrut
campaign and at the same time
received the founders award of the
development foundation whose pro-
gram he helped initiate five years
ago.

JIM GOTTFURCHT, career
agent in the Norman L. Jacobs
Agency, Detroit, surpassed t h e
Massachusetts Indemnity c o m-
pany's all-time production record
