THE WRITER RECENTLY at-
tended a seminar on hypnosis
given by Dr. William Bryan who
heads the American Institute of
Hypnosis. Dr. Bryan predicts that
hypnosis will be a tremendous
factor in education. One of the
cases cited was that of Dr. Stanley
Kripner of the Child Guidance
Center of Kent State University.
He stated that a three-year study
showed hypnotism helped not only
improve" study habits ; but ,- also
helped them on examinations and
strengthened their desire to study.
Dr. Kripner told the National Read-
ing Conference that hypnosis can
produce dramatic results when
used to relieve anxious students
with examination jitters.
SOL LEWIS RELATES this one

was once scheduled to address an
anti-Nazi meeting in Brooklyn. He
received several letters warning
that unless he stayed away he
would most certainly be shot.
Threats never bothered Rabbi
Wise. Soon after the meeting was
brought to order he was called
upon to speak. Taking a charac-
teristic position, he spread his out-
stretched arms and opened by
saying, "I have been warned to
stay away from this meeting under
pain of being killed. If anyone is
going to shoot me let him do it
now. I hate to be interrupted."
RUBY SAMSON was once intro-
duced as a guest speaker at a City
of Hope rally by the MC who listed
his virtues in glowing terms. "That
introduction," grinned Ruby, "re-
minds me of the man, who on
judgment day, stuck his head out
of the grave and read the epitaph
on his headstone. "Either some-
body is a terrible liar, or I'm in
the wrong hole."

Toronto Agencies Rally

TORONTO (JTA) — The Jewish
community of Toronto welcomes
1,000 Jewish immigrants to this
city every year, and spends $200,-
000 for services to the newcomers,
according to a report issued here.
The report showed that service
to the Jewish immigrants is made
possible by the "intensive cooper-
ation" of the Jewish Family and
Child Service, the Jewish Immi-
grant Aid Services, the Jewish Vo-
cational Service and the Canadian
Jewish Congress.
All agencies, it was noted, are
directly involved in providing
services for the immigrants from
the moment they decide to emi-
grate to Canada until they become
fully settled and self-sufficient.
