Nazi Kicked `in the Pants' by a Coed of 19

SAN FRANCISCO (JTA) — A
19-year-old University of Cali-
fornia s t u d e n t, Ivliss Lynda
Koolish, was notified that she is
to appear before Berkeley City
Judge Floyd C. Talbott on May 11,
on charges of assault and battery
growing out of an attack she made
against a uniformed member of
the American Nazi Party, who had
tried to address students at the
gates leading to the university
campus.
Miss Koolish told the Jewish
Community Bulletin here that,
when she saw the man in a storm-

JWB ANNIVERSARY: The National Jewish Welfare Board, now
starting to celebrate its 50th anniversary, is one of the American Jew-
ish organizations that can be proud of its record. It has been perform-
ing valuable service for Jews in both military and civilian life.
Fifty years ago, when the JWB came into existence, the Jewish
Centers and Young Men Hebrew Associations were engaged primarily
in "Americanization" activities. The Jews in those years were mostly
immigrants, and the idea was to bring them closer to American life
culturally and socially. "Americanization" was the principal motive in
the programs in the Jewish Centers and in the YM-YWHAs.
Things have changed during the 50 years. Today there is no need
to "Americanize" the Jews in this country. They are part and parcel
of American life. Close to 80 percent of them are American-born. They
need no instruction in the English language and no enlightenment on
the American way of life. Many of them need now to know more of
the Jewish way of life than of the American way of life.
To the credit of the National Jewish Welfare Board it must be
said that its leaders have understood the march of time. Instead of
