GREGORIO SHAPIRO was re-
elected president of the Jewish
Central Committee of Mexico, the
representative body of Mexican
Jewry. The noted leader, who is
very active in Zionist affairs, yield-
ed to demands that he serve again,
for a two-year term. Also re-elected,
as general secretary, was Z. A.
Berebichez, a writer and leader in
Mexican Jewish cultural affairs.

DR. IRA M. ALTSHULER, inter-
nationally known psychiatrist, was
the guest speaker at the Southfield
Board of Health. His topic was
"Modern Trends in Community
Mental Health." Dr. Howard
R. Weissman, chairman of the
Southfield Board of Health, has
initiated the recent series of health
programs for the community. Dr.
Morris Goldin, psychiatrist and
member of the board of health,
was moderator.

York City, has contributed
$250,000 towards

Carpentry at the

nounced by Ira

is an early Federbush
founder and officer of BTJ, Isra-
el's largest comprehensive high
school offering academic, voca-
tional and religious training to 635
teen-age youngsters. The Feder-
bush School of Carpentry, as part
of BTJ's Technical Training Cen-
ter of five major vocational
schools, will be dedicated April 18
and 19.

Judge MAX. J. GARMAISE has
been appointed as the first Jewish
judge of the Quebec Social Welfare
Court, a newly created judicial
body. Judge Garmaise is active in
the Jewish community of Rouyn, a
suburb of Quebec, where he has
participated in the Canadian Zion-
ist Organization and the Canadian
Jewish Congress.

ance Company have been invited to
participate in a five-day business
conference with President Gilbert
W. Fitzhugh and other Metropol-
itan Life officers at the San Jero-
nimo Hilton Hotel in San Juan,
Puerto Rico, next week. They are

B. WAYNE. Last year each placed
more than $1,000,000 in personal
life insurance to rank among the
top 450 leaders of 30,000 Metropol-

ed a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship.
He is a graduate of the University
of Michigan. Woodrow Wilson Fel-

Dr. ABRAHAM I. KATSH, inter-
nationally noted Hebrew scholar
and director of the Institute of He-
brew Studies at New York Univer-
sity, has been chosen to receive the
1966 Achievement Award of NYU's
Washington Square College Alum-
ni Association, for "attainment in
business or professional life," at
the association's annual alumni
gathering Saturday, at NYU's
Washington Square Center.

Dr. JOACHIM PRINZ will be
honored on completing eight years
of service as president of the
American Jewish Congress at a
dinner marking the opening of the
AJCongress 1966 campaign Sun-
day evening. Governor Richard' J.
Hughes of New Jersey will be the
principal speaker at the dinner at
the Essex House in New York City.

Miss CORRIE ten BOOM, from
the Netherlands, a former Nazi
prisoner, will speak at the Jewish
Neighbor Night, 8 p.m. Monday, at
First Baptist Church, Oak Park.
Because of Miss ten Boom's
efforts to befriend the Jews
in Holland, she and her father
and sister were sent by the
Nazi to the Ravensbrueck concen-
tration camp, where her father
and sister died. Miss ten Boom is
from a family of watchmakers and
the first woman watchmaker in
Holland. The World Jewish Coun-
cil has declared her to be on the
list of 150 Righteous Gentiles. She
is the author of several books in
numerous languages, one "A Pris-
oner, and Yet." Rhoda Zahavi
Shames will sing at Monday's
gathering.

PHILIP W. LOWN of West New-
ton, Mass., has been elected a
trustee of Brandeis University.

A recruitment campaign was in-
augurated Wednesday in South-
eastern Michigan by the Depart-
ment of Mental Health and area
news media.
The goal is to obtain nonprofes-
sional people to fill vacant posi-
tions at the seven state hospitals
for the mentally ill and mentally
retarded in the seven-county area.
Openings are now available for
male institution workers, cooks and
janitors; male and female attend-
ant nurses; typists and stenograph-
ers. There are no specific educa-
tion or experience requirements
for any of the positions listed ex-
cept for typists and stenographers
who must be high school graduates.
"Rapidly developing new and
more effective services for pa-
tients at our state institutions
has increased the demand for

personnel at all levels of employ-
ment," said Dr. Robert A. Kim-
mich, director of the mental
health department.
