Because of Miss ten Boom's efforts to befriend the Jews in Holland, she and her father and sister were sent by the Nazi to the Ravensbrueck concen- tration camp, where her father and sister died. Miss ten Boom is from a family of watchmakers and the first woman watchmaker in Holland. The World Jewish Coun- cil has declared her to be on the list of 150 Righteous Gentiles. She is the author of several books in numerous languages, one "A Pris- oner, and Yet." Rhoda Zahavi Shames will sing at Monday's gathering. * * PHILIP W. LOWN of West New- ton, Mass., has been elected a trustee of Brandeis University. A recruitment campaign was in- augurated Wednesday in South- eastern Michigan by the Depart- ment of Mental Health and area news media. The goal is to obtain nonprofes- sional people to fill vacant posi- tions at the seven state hospitals for the mentally ill and mentally retarded in the seven-county area. Openings are now available for male institution workers, cooks and janitors; male and female attend- ant nurses; typists and stenograph- ers. There are no specific educa- tion or experience requirements for any of the positions listed ex- cept for typists and stenographers who must be high school graduates. "Rapidly developing new and more effective services for pa- tients at our state institutions has increased the demand for personnel at all levels of employ- ment," said Dr. Robert A. Kim- mich, director of the mental health department.
