An expanded program of luxury
cruises from U.S. ports to the
Mediterranean, Caribbean a n d
other areas of the world is being
mapped by the Zim Lines which
will emphasize the cruise side of
its passenger services during the
years ahead, it was announced by
Gottlieb Hammer, president of the
American - Israeli Shipping Co.,
Inc., U.S. representatives of the
Zim Lines.
One consequence of this de-
cision, Hammer said, will be the
withdrawal of the mixed passen-
ger-cargo liners, SS Israel and
SS Zion from trans-Atlantic serv-
ice early next spring. The Israel's
final sailing from New York will
be on March 25, and the Zion's
on April 14.
The SS Shalom, 25,300 gross
ton flagship of the Zim fleet, will
make four trans-Atlantic round
voyages from New York to Haifa
via European ports in 1966. These
trips will be in addition to two
long Mediterranean cruises of 42
and 48 days' duration, sailing from
New York on March 18 and August
30, respectively. The Shalom will
make two and probably three long
cruises to the Mediterranean in
1967.

$34 Million for ME Force
Voted by UN Committee

UNITED NATIONS (JTA) — A
$33,900,000, two-year budget for
the United Nations Emergency
Force — the military group that
patrols the borders between Is-
rael and Egypt — was voted here
Monday night by the General As-
sembly's administrative and bud-
getary committee.
The decision was taken by a
vote of 38-14 over the opposition
of the Soviet Union, which con-
tends that the force was set up
illegally and has refused to help
pay for it.

The budget called for a 1965

appropriation totaling $18,911,-
