Three Killed

Meyer Brown
An auto-train accident Sunday
took the lives of three cousins,
members of a prominent Detroit
family.
They are attorney Paul Michael
Shapiro, 27, of 15316 Northgate,
Oak Park; James Prentis Morris,
13, of 19395 Parkside; and Walker
(Wally) H. Straus Jr., 14, of 19434
Renfrew. Grandfather of the two
boys is Meyer L. Prentis, former

neral Motors Corp. treasurer.
)1'he accident • occurred north-
ast of Ann Arbor. A Chesapeake
and Ohio locomotive hit the car
driven by Mr. Shapiro and in which
the two boys were passengers. He
and James died Sunday; Walker
on Monday.
Mr. Shapiro, born in Norfolk,
Va., was an attorney with the
firm of McClintock, Donovan,
Fulton and Waterman in the
Guardian Building. A graduate
of the University of Virginia in
1960 and the University of Mich-
igan Law School a year later,
he also was an honors student
at William and Mary Law School
and received his masters of law
degree in taxation from New
York University last year.
He was a member of Phi Delta
Phi honorary legal fraternity and
Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity at the
University of Virginia. He also
belonged to Temple Beth El.
Mr. Shapiro leaves his wife,
Denise Lande Shapiro, a grand-
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Prentis;
a daughter, Ricki; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Shapiro; two
brothers, Joel and Rand-Evan; and
his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sol
Kaplan. Interment, Norfolk.
Both James and Walker were
Detroit-born and students at De-
troit Country Day School. Their
families were members of Temple
Beth El.
James leaves his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Lester M. Morris; a
brother, Robert; a sister, Patricia;
and his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Prentis and Mr. and Mrs.
Moses Morris.
Walker leaves his father, Walker
Sr.; his mother, Beverly; a brother,
Jefferey; and his grandparents,
Mr. and Mrs. Prentis.

Insurance Co. of Palestine and a
co-founder of the Hassneh Insur-
ance Co. of Palestine.
He served as chairman of the
Jewish Teachers Institute and
Peoples Seminary from 1941 to
1962 and was secretary of the
Labor Zionist movement of Amer-
ica from 1908 and 1909 and 1931
to 1933. He was the author of
several books and a frequent con-
tributor 'to Farband and other
Yiddish publications.

melhoch, senior attending physi-
cian at Harper, Children's and
Sinai Hospitals, died Oct. 28 at
age 65.
Dr. Himmelhoch, 19220 Kings-
ton, had offices on W. Seven Mile
until the last few years, when he
worked out of his home.
A native Detroiter and a gradu-
ate of Central High School, Dr.
Himmelhoch was a 1920 graduate
of the University of Michigan and
1924 graduate of Johns Hopkins
University. He belonged to the
Wayne County Medical Society and
was a diplomate for the American
College of Pediatrics.
He leaves his wife, Sarah; two
sons, Dr. Jonathan M. and Dr. S.
Ralph; a daughter, Martha E.; a
Samuel Slotkin, founder and sister, Mrs. Ray Altshuler; and
first president of the Hygrade four grandchildren.
