Temple Israel solemnized by Rab-
bis Leon Fram and M. Robert Syme

Parents of the couple are Mr.
and Mrs. David M. Berk of Vassar
Dr. and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hal-
pert of Kalamazoo.
The bride's floor-length gown of
Chantilly lace over peau de soie
had a portrait neckline and long
sleeves. The raised waist had a
set-in bow, and the removable Wat-
teau train was of peau de soie. She
wore a shoulder-length double-tier-
ed mantilla of matching lace and
carried a cascade of baby orchids.
Matron of honor for her sister
was Mrs. Stuart Opotowsky of
Hacienda Heights, Calif. Brides-
maids were Nanette and Benay
Halpert, sisters of the bride-
. groom, Cathy Schafer and Gail
Bacow.
Melvin Hoberman was best man,
and ushers included Stuart Opo-
towsky, brother-in-law of the bride,
Stuart Schafer; Daniel Zides of
Brooklyn, Mass.; and Stuart Starr.
After a Bermuda honeymoon,
the Halperts will live in Oak Park.

ships to advance education and
social work in Israel and Jewish
communities abroad.
The Druze are an independent
religious and ethnic group which
has identified itself with Israel
since that country's struggle for
independence. The recipient of the
grant is Yousef Kassem, a member
of a prominent Druze family and
a specialist in community organi-
zation with experience in work-
ing in Arab villages.
Prominent among seven other
