My, How Times
Have Changed

BY CHARLOTTE HYAMS
"And Ruth said, Intreat me not
to leave thee, or to return from
following after thee: for whither
thou goest, I will go; and where
thou iodgest, I will lodge: thy peo-
ple shall be my people, and thy
God any God . . . "
Two thousand years later:
Frankly, Mother Naomi, I don't
know if it'll work out. You know
the old saying about too many
cooks in the kitchen.
* *
"And she went, and came, and
gleaned in the field after the
reapers .. .
Today:
Remnants ! This is what you call
a bargain? Chaff?
* * *
"Then said Boaz unto Ruth,
Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go
not to glean in another field,
neither go from hence, but abide
here fast by my maidens."
Stick around.
* * *
"Then Naomi her mother-in-law
said unto her, My daughter, shall
I not seek rest for thee, that it
may be well with thee? . . . and
now is not Boaz of our kindred,
with whose maidens thou wast?..."
Well, he's at least eligible—not
a doctor, but eligible.

.

*

"And the kinsman said (toBoaz),
I cannot redeem it for myself, lest
I mar mine own inheritance: take
my right of redemption to thyself;
for I cannot redeem it."
You can have her. I like being
a bachelor.
* * *
"And the women said unto Nao-
mi, Blessed be the Lord, which
hath not left thee this days without
a kinsman, that his name may be
famous in Israel."
Oy, such nachas you'll get from
your grandson ! He might even be
President !
* * *
"And the women her neighbors
gave it a name, saying, There is a
son born to Naomi; and they called
his name Obed: he is • the father
of Jesse, the father of David."
How about calling hira Craig
Talbot? Now there's a name
