Sidney M. Shevitz and Irving
Pokempner, co-chairmen of the
Joint Committee of the Jewish
Community Council and Zionist
Council, urged support of Senate
Bill S-948 which at a c k s trade
boycotts directed against foreign
countries with which the United
States maintains friendly relations.
Introduced by Senators Harri-
son Williams (D-N.J.) and Jacob
Javits (R-N.Y.), the proposal de-
clares; "It is the policy of the
United States to oppose restrictive
trade practices or boycotts, fos-
tered or imposed by foreign coun-
tries against other countries favor-
able to the United States."
Commending Michigan's Senator
Philip Hart for his involvement
as one of the co-sponsors of the
proposed anti-boycott measure,
Shevitz and Pokempner urged that
organizations and individual ex-
pressions be sent to the other mem-
bers of Michigan's congressional
delegation requesting their sup-
port of S-948.
