is used for any other purpose ..
In Winona Lake, Indiana, it is
illegal to eat ice cream at a counter

you cannot take a bite of another

person's hamburger . . . It is ille-
gal to buy a glass of milk in San
Francisco — it must be sold only
in sealed containers . . . Here's
a doozy . . . In Greene, New York,
you cannot eat peanuts and walk
backwards on the sidewalks while
a concert is on . . . A lot of folks
probably would like this a national
law . . . about an Astoria County,
Washington ordinance decreeing
that all restaurant menus must be
written in the "American" lan-
guage . . . For this week, we'll end
with the one in Lehigh, Nebraska,
where it is against the law to sell
doughnut holes. (honest engine !)
OUR WAITER AT the Aged 'n
Rare in the Harlan House re-
cently, was named William . . .
and we enjoyed having him take
care of us . . . William has the
wanted quality in a good waiter of
being efficient, fast and congenial
. . . So much so, that our dinner
was made even better by his splen-
did service . . . We appreciate
good waiters and waitresses . . .
They're singular aim is, as it
should be, to please the customer.
CHALK UP ONE for owner
George Garian at Club Ali Baba
. . . While dining there last week,
a popular local columnist called
him over to the table and after
raving about a certain Armenian
dish he was having, asked for the
recipe . . . George just smiled and
answered, "I'm sorry, sir, but we
have the same policy here as you
journalists. We never reveal our
sauce."
NO MORE FOOD at The Living
End but plenty of activity with
folk singing and congenial atmos-
phere . . . Place is divided into
two separate rooms by a center
staircase, but the music flows into
each one . . . Owners Mary and
Tony (remember the old Russian
Bear?) have an interesting spot.
WHEN OUT ON THE TOWN, at
places you don't normally fre-
quent, be sure to check your check
. . ." Too many non-popular places
have a habit of "padding" the bill
and there's nothing you can do
about it after the damage is done
, . Dont' just say, "I'll never go
there again" ... Think of the next
person . . • If more people will
look over their checks, these places
will give another thought to tack-
ing on extra do-re-mi . . Michi-
gan's Liquor Commission is among
the strictest . . . and frowns heavily
upon these type of places.
HAS NOTHING TO do with
newspapers or newspapermen,
but this drink is called a Gazette
