Kasle's Gift
for Education
Si

(Continued from Page 1)
Great Lakes Club. In brief remarks
addressed to the gathering—to his
immediate family, his children and
grandchildren — Mr. Kasle ex-
pressed his credo t h a t the two
major necessities in life are shel-
ter and education. He told of his
deep concern over the educational
shortcomings and said he was es-
tablishing the six-figure fund es-
pecially to assist in the training of
teachers. Later he informed The
Jewish News that the fund he is
assigning will be specified for al-
location on a non-sectarian and
non-racial basis—to aid Jewish and
secular schools, to encourage edu-
cational efforts among all faiths,
among Negroes as well as whites,
in Jewish schools and in universi-
ties.
The only brief speeches at the
golden wedding black tie dinner
dance in honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Kasle were by Rabbi Jacob Segal
and the Kasles' sons, Leonard and
Robert, and their son-in-law Ben-
jamin Jones.
In addition to their sons Leon-
ard, Ben and Robert and daughter,
Esther Jones, the party was at-
tended by the Kasles' 10 grandchil-
dren and there was a brief appear-
ance by their two-year-old great-
grandson. 3,1r. Kasle's four broth-
ers, Sam, Jake, Joe and Louis, and
his two sisters, Dorothy Pollens
and Blanche Abrams , many
nephews and nieces and other rela-
tives, were there to share in the
evening's festivities.
The current six-figure education-
al gift is one of a large number
of generous contributions that have
been made by Mr. Kasle in the
past 30 years. He was among the
first to set highest standards of
giving to the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign which he had served for two
years as chairman. For 15 years
president of the United Hebrew
Schools, he has made large gifts to
the educational system and the
Kasle Hall is named in his and his
wife's honor at the Esther Berman
Branch.
On his 60th birthday he gave the
sum of $60,000- to numerous local
educational causes. The following
year he contributed $25,000 for the
establishment of the Kasle Wayne
State University Judaica Library.
An ardent Zionist, he has taken
a deep interest in all efforts in Is-
rael's behalf.
He is now deeply devoted to the
Hillel Day School and has assisted
i t i n many ways.
-The Kasles' affiliations are num-
erous. They include every facet of
Jewish life, and the beneficiaries
from their philanthropic work are

manifold.
