Biblical Note on Society
You must not learn to imitate
the abominable practices of the
(heathen) nations. There must not
be found among you anyone who
makes his son or his daughter pass
through fire, a diviner, a sooth-
sayer, an augur, a sorcerer, a
charmer, a medium, a magician, or -
a necromancer. For anyone given
to these practices is abominable
to the Lord . . . You must be ab-
solutely true to the Lord your God;
for while these nations whom you
are to conquer give heed to sooth-
sayers and diviners, the Lord your
God has not intended you to do so.
Instead, the Lord your God will
raise up a prophet for you from
among yourselves.-Deut. 18:9-15.
