Program for Better Detroit Schools
Detroit Board of Education can-
didates Peter F. Grylls, Darneau
Stewart and A. L. Zwerdling have
announced a program for better
schools for Detroit's children.
They put special emphasis on

their belief that the board of edu-
cation must see that its policies
are carried out by the school ad-
ministration.
They said: "The Citizens Ad-
visory Committee made many
specific recommendations for
educational reform in Detroit;
elimination of early elementary
grades from the platoon,
strengthening mathematics in-
struction by linking it with sci-
ence rather than home room;
and use of the school library as
a resource for the whole school
rather than as a scheduled sub-
ject."
Detroit community leaders who
form the sponsoring committee
for Grylls. Stewart and Zwerdling
include: Congressmen John Con-
yers, Charles C. Diggs, and John
D. Dingell; Mrs. George C. Ed-
wards; Leonard Kasle; David Le-
bendon; Emil Mazey; Mel Ravitz:

Swainson and others.
The candidacies of Grylls. Ste-
wart and Zwerdling are endorsed
by Detroit Federation of Teachers,
Serve Our Schools Committee,
