Voters' Responsibilities in November

The primary election in Michigan, while
it drew a much larger vote than is usually
recorded for off-season balloting, neverthe-
less indicated that less than 50 per cent of
the people cast their ballots on such occa-
sions.
It is true that the largest vote always is
recorded during a Presidential election. But
even on such occasions there are so many
abstentions that there is cause for concern
lest too many should be callous in their

response to the serious issues that confront
us at a time when we are called upon to

'express our choice for the Chief Executive.

There are many issues at stake, and unless
all who are able to vote make use of their
franchise our democracy stands in danger
of being weakened.
Important judgeships are to be filled and
other important officials are to be selected.
We are to vote next month for members of
Congress, and a distinguished United States
Senator from Michigan is up for re-election.
It is urgent that all qualified voters should
study the issues and prepare themselves to

cast their votes intelligently on Nov. 3. Let
there be no laggards on that day.

Hadassah's Honors for a Great Lady

Detroit Hadassah has undertaken to honor
its distinguished leader, Mrs. Joseph H.
Ehrlich, by establishing a special area as
the Dora Ehrlich Orthopedic Wing in the
Hadassah-Hebrew . University Medical Center
in Jerusalem.
The project requires a minimum of $50,000
to assure the naming of the wing area for
Detroit's eminent woman leader.
Local Hadassah is contacting a group of
sixty Detroiters who are asked to make the

necessary gifts to assure the implementation
of the task undertaken in Mrs. Ehrlich's
honor.

- One of the Hadassah pioneers here, a lead-
er in all community functions, a civic as well

as Jewish leader, Mrs. Ehrlich has earned

it that a project sponsored to honor her name
should prove successful. It is to be hoped

that those who have been contacted will re-
spond promptly to Hadassah's call to action.

continues to enrich the joyous role of Hassidism.

The Last Year in Review

Valuable Demographic Data
in American Jewish Year Book

Special articles on the progress made in civil rights efforts,
analyses of Church-State issues and of anti-Semitic agitations during
the past year are the features of the 1964 American Jewish Year Book
issued by the Jewish Publication Society in conjunction with the
American Jewish Committee.
Other articles are devoted to reviews of religious activities, Jewish
educational efforts, communal programing, the status of Jewish
college students in the United States and the events in the Middle
East in relation to U.S.-Israel interests.
These are in addition to the usual Year Book reviews of events
throughout the world in the past year and the directories of periodicals,
federations, national organizations; Jewish calendars and other
informative material.
Demographic facts about the Jewish population in the United
States, summarized by states, form the opening article by Alvin
Chenkin.
Authoritative authors have prepared the series of articleS in the
Year Book, and informed men who are close to the situations in Latin
America, Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Israel, Africa
and Australia wrote the reviews of events in a score of countries.
The article by George Kellman on "Anti-Jewish Agitation" de-
scribes events in the South, the George Lincoln Rockwell movement,
and the activities of the anti-Semitic press.
Alfred Jospe, writing on "Jewish College Students in the United
States," describes the vast increase of Jewish students in American
universities.
