Rabbi Fram Is Recovering Rapidly
Our community will be happy to learn that Dr. Leon Fram has
begun to show improvement and that, while recovery is slow, there
is a turn for the better.
A reduction in his intake of antibiotics was ordered, pointing
to signs of improvement. It is expected he may be back in his pul-
pit within a month.
Rabbi Fram became ill on May 21, and he was rushed to
Harper Hospital. His illness was diagnosed as spinal meningitis.

Baron de Rothschild Get s Seminary Degree
Baron Edmond de Rothschild of
France received the honorary de-
gree of doctor of laws from the
Jewish Theological Seminary of
America, which institution he
termed "a citadel of Jewish learn-
ing that does more than hold pro-
mise of a continuing Judaism."
The degree was conferred upon
the French financier and phil-
anthropist at a special convocation
held at the Seminary. The accom-

Arnold Forster, general counsel
of the Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith, charged that Arab
propagandists have arrived in the
United States to seek to persuade
American Catholic bishops to take
their side when the Ecumenical
Council reconvenes in Rome in
September. H o w e v e r, Forster
declared, American bishops have
turned "a cold shoulder to the
Arab plans."
"The Arab purpose is to pre-
vent the Roman Catholic church
from considering a reinterpreta-
tion of the Crucifixion story,"
Forster told 1,500 delegates from
New York and New England at
the 112th annual convention of
District No. 1 Bnai Brith at the

JOHANNESBURG (JTA)—The
resignation was announced of Rab-
bi Dr. Ahron Opher as chief mini-
ster of the United Progressive
Jewish Congregation of Johannes-
burg, largest Reform congregation
in South Africa, with three con-
stituent temples.
Formerly rabbi of South Shore
Temple, Chicago, Dr. Opher came
to South Africa two years ago in
response to a call from the Jo-
hannesburg congregation, s u p-
ported by the World Union for
Progressive Judaism.
In a statement accompanying
his resignation, he said he has
completed the mission which
brought him to South Africa to
give Reform Judaism new direc-
tion in this country, and he now
wishes to return home.
A statement by the congrega-
tion's governing council expresses
profound regret at Rabbi Opher's
resignation and paid glowing tri-
bute to him for his achievements
in his two years of spritual leader-
ship as the congregation's chief
minister.
Beth Aaron Announces
Graduation, Registration
for Religious School
Beth Aaron Religious School
will hold its 12th annual gradua-
tion exercises 10 a.m. Sunday at
the synagogue, according to Ber-
nard Panush, school director.
Twenty-five students will par-
ticipate in the ceremonies, which
will include a cantata, "The Law
of the Lord is Perfect," written
by Rabbi Benjamin Gorrelick and
produced by Bella Goldberg. The
exercises will be open to the
public.
Panush also announces that the
office of the religious school will
be open every Sunday in May and
June, 10 a.m.-noon, to accept reg-
istrations for the next school year.
Dr. Marvin Last, educational
chairman, and members of his
committee will process all enroll-
ments.
Oak-Woods Graduation
Young Israel Center of Oak-
Woods Talmud Torah will hold its
graduation exercises 10:30 a.m.
June 7 at the Center. Featured will
be a musical interlude by graduat-
ing students David Goldschmid, ac-
cordian, Manus Krasman, violin,
and Steven Sable, clarinet, with
piano accompaniment by Samuel
Gunn. A reception will follow.
