Councilman Mel Ravitz spoke Tuesday at Sinai Hospital of
Detroit. He addressed the Women's Auxiliary of the Maimonides
Medical Society on the topic "What It Means to Be a Councilman."
Laker Family Club celebrated its third annual installation
at the Elmwood Casino, Windsor. Melvin W. Mermell was
awarded a past-presidents plaque and James N. Laker, outgoing
vice-president, and Mrs. Melvin Mermell, historian, received
merit certificates. Melvin W. Menne11, president; Mrs. Harry Fogel,
vice president; Mrs. James Laker, secretary; Mrs. Melvin Mermell,
historian; and Harry Stone, sergeant at arms.
Kutnick Family Club will hold its Purim Party 8 p.m.
Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kutnick, Strathcona
Dr. Movies will be shown.
Mrs. Harold Weiss, 20058 Stansbury, is flying to New York
to see off former Detroiter Mrs. David Meyers, on her European
trip.
Phi Sigma Delta Fraternity and Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority,
both of Wayne State University, have formed a brother-sister
relationship as a follow-up to Greek Week on the campus. The
groups will jointly sponsor several functions.
Miss Donnie Kein was recently installed as chapter sweet-
heart of Dag Hammarskjold Bnai Brith Young Men.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leiderman have moved into their new
home at 18946 Cherrylawn. Among their recent guests who
helped dedicate their home were Rabbi and Mrs. Abraham
Zentman, Rabbi and Mrs. Israel Rockove, Mr. and Mrs. David
J. Cohen, with their daughter Sherril, Mrs. Hyman Crystal,
Mrs. Hyman Goldstein, Rabbi and Mrs. Israel I. Halperin and
the Youth Commission, Mrs. Ralph Rice, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Krohngold and young people of the LTG group of Beth
Abraham. Mr. and Mrs. Liederman's son, Ronald, recently
returned from two trips connected with his studies at the

Beth Goldman, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Aubrey Goldman
of Renfrew Rd., and Ellen Cohen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Irving Cohen of Stoepel Ave., were elected president and vice-
president, respectively, of Pasteur School student council.
Beth Rhodes and Gordon Goodman, students of Julius Chajes
at the Center Music School, shared the first prize at the Michi-
gan Music Teachers Contest for Juniors, held Feb. 22 in East
Lansing.
Tuberculosis patients at the Dearborn Veterans Hospital
were entertained recently by the Oak Park and Auxiliary of the
Jewish War Veterans.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Roy Glass, with daughters Amy Beth and
Karen Sue, of Anaheim, Calif., were recent guests of their par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Thomas of Washburn Ave. The Michael
Englemens of Flint were weekend guests at Mr. and Mrs. Thomas.

Children's Hospital Names Dr. John Pollack
to Seventh Term as Its Chief of State

Dr. John J. Pollack was ap-
pointed this week to his seventh
consecutive year as chief of
staff of Children's Hospital.
Dr. Pollack, who received
his M.D. at the University of
Toronto, did graduate train-
ing in pediatrics in New Jer-
sey and a year later came to
Children's Hospital. He has
been there since 1930.
A member of the Fresh Air
Camp board of directors and
former vice president, Dr.
Pollack was appointed this year

to the board of the Professional
Service Group. He is past presi-
dent of the Detroit Pediatrics
Society.
Dr. Pollack lives with his
wife, Hilda, at 19325 Berkeley.
They have a daughter, a son
and two grandsons.

Samuel Fisher, to
Perform at UHS

Satirist Samuel Fisher, whose
humorous monologues, stories,
parodies and folk songs depict-
ing all facets of Jewish life have
been presented throughout the
world, will be presented in a
special program 9 p.m. March 9
at the Esther Berman Building
of the United Hebrew Schools.
The evening is sponsored by
Kvutza Ivrit, the Hebrew-speak-
ing cultural group, and is open
to the public.
Fisher has performed in
such countries as Iceland and
Ecuador. As a fighter in the
Israeli army, he gave over 500
performances while in the
front lines of fire during the
war of Independence and
Sinai Campaign.
