Louis Panush Appointed Principal of Western High School

Louis Panush, assistant prin-
cipal of Mackenzie High School
for the past five years, has been
promoted to Principal of West-
ern High School.
Panush, a resident of Detroit
since 1929, received his formal
education at Wayne State Uni-
versity. Since earning his mas-
ter's degree in science educa-
tion he has done graduate work
in supervision and administra-
tion.

Hias Gives Figures
for Aid to Cuban
Jewish Refugees

NEW YORK, (JTA) — More
than 60 per cent of the unac-
companied 400 Cuban Jewish
children, who were among the
7,000 Cuban Jews leaving Cuba
since Castro took power in
1959, have been reunited with
parents helped to come to the
United States with assistance
from the United Hias Service.
James P. Rice, Hias executive
director, in summarizing reset-
tlement aid to Cuban Jewish
refugees, said the 400 children
were resettled in 40 communi-
ties in 23 states, the District
of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Most of the 7,000 refugees came
to the United States, the ma-
jority of them aided directly or
indirectly by Hias.

the Science and Mathematics
Department.
Panush is active in many
professional educational a n d
science organizations. In 1958
he was president of the Central
Association of School Science
and Mathematics Teachers. For
18 years, he was editor of the
Science Review, a locally pub-
lished science education jour-
nal. Panush is a fellow of the
American Association of the
Advancement of Science.
Aside from his professional
affiliations, Panush is active in
Jewish community organiza-
tions. He is a member of the
ZOD Board of Directors. Both
he and his wife were delegates
to the ZOA convention in Is-
rael. For many years Panush
was affiliated with the United
Hebrew and Shaarey Zedek
Sunday School.
The Panush's have f our
daughters, all pursuing profes-
