Announcement has been made
in Jerusalem of a generous gift
by Mrs. Emma Schaver of De-
troit for the construction of a
trade school in Israel to be
built at a cost of a million
Israel pounds.
The school will be erected
within the next two years in
the development town of Bet

Mrs. Schaver will contribute
one-third of the cost of the
project, or the equivalent of
about $111,000, with the Minis-
try of Education and Histadrut
contributing additional equal
shares.
Bet Shemesh, an old Biblical
site, has been revived by Jew-
ish settlers since 1950 when the
mass immigration to Israel
brought newcomers into this
hilly sector on the outskirts of
the national capital. The town
has made considerable progress
but is still struggling to achieve
economic stability. The voca-
tional school which will be an-
other link in Histadrut's net-
work of 16 Amal institutions,
will help train youngsters of the
community in useful skills and
thus increase their chances to
succeed as skilled workers in
the new industries which will
take root there.

Senator Javits
Sees Immediate
Danger to Israel

K I A ME SH A LAKE, N.Y.,
(JTA) — Sen. Jacob K. Javits,
New York Republican, asserted
that a mutual defense pact with
I s r a el by the United States,
Britain, France and any other
Middle East State willing to as-
sume its obligations "is essen-
tial" to Israel's security.
The senator made the state-
ment in an address to the 111th
annual convention of District No.
1 of Bnai Brith here. He also
told the 2,000 delegates that he
disagreed completely with the
view of the State Department
that "there is no immediate dan-
ger to Israel." He contended that
the danger existed "and that it
may be imminent."
He charged that the Middle
East was "the only part of the
world where United States policy
treats friends of peace and foes
of peace alike."

2 out of 5 U.S.homes are owned debt-free

It is an amazing fact that forty per cent of all
American families who live in their own homes
own those homes free of any debt of any kind.
Savings and Loan Associations contributed to
this accomplishment by developing the modern
home loan which is paid off in monthly
installments like rent. A home loan to fit your
individual needs is our business. Come see us.
