Youth Forest in
Israel to Honor
Ben-Zvi's Memory

Editor, The Jewish News:
In the September, 1962, issue
of The Jewish News, there was
an announcement that modern
Hebrew speech was to be taught
by Israeli teachers at the Jewish
Center. A class was assembled
and we took advantage of the
opportunity. The season has
now come to a close. It is our
sincere hope that the Jewish
Center will again, this coming
season, afford us the opportuni-
ty of continuing our Hebrew
studies. We greatly appreciate
the dedication and courteous
treatment given us by the per-
sonnel of the Jewish Center and
our teacher, Mr. Geller.
JACK GOLDHAR
(On behalf of the entire class.)

Dr. Israel Wiener, chairman
of the Jewish National Fund
youth and education commit-
tee, is shown here receiving
from Chuck Lefton, chairman
of the Detroit Jewish Youth
Council, a presentation for the
planting of several hundred
trees to form the nucleus for a

MI, Activities

featured in the current issue of
Look Magazine.
In a six-page article marking
the ADL's 50th anniversary,
Thomas Morgan traces the his-
tory of the League from its
early battles against overt, blat-
ant anti-Semitism to its present-
day campaigns against subtle
discrimination in areas such as
housing, education and employ-
ment.
The magazine describes the
ADL as "a highly skilled
human - relations organization"
dedicated to combating preju-
dice and promoting understand-
ing.
Noting that the League's bud-
get for next year is $3,940,000,
the magazine quotes ADL na-
tional chairman Dore Schary:
"We will do with it what we've
always done. Where we find
prejudice, we fight it. That's a
commitment you - make as an
American and as a Jew."
Schary, according to Look,
expresses the mood of many
Jewish Americans on the subject
of tolerance when he declares in
the article:
- "I don't want to be tolerated
as a Jew. We can tolerate pain,
tolerate misfortune, but I am
intolerant of that patronizing
group who continue to prattle,
`Some of my best friends are
Jews.' "
