of advancing
his alma ma-
ter's needs and
objectives. Burdick
When he was elected to the
WSU Governing Board, he was
the only successful statewide
Republican candidate, and the
overwhelming vote he received
was a 'recognition. of the esteem
in which he is held in Republican
ranks, in which he has been a
leader since his youth, and the
respect accorded him by all who
work with him,
For 20 years, he was chairman
of the 15th -Republican District
and was succeeded in this post
by his brother, Irwin, who shares
the law practice with him and
another brother, Herbert.
A consistent advocate of clean
politics, a believer that men of
ability should take an interest
in their community and in poli-
tical affairs—"how else can we
get the ablest men to run our
public affairs?", he asks—he has
encouraged his brothers to follow
in his footsteps and to share re-
sponsibility in political affairs.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., in
1903, Burdick came to Detroit
with his family as a youngster.
He made his way through school,
selling papers. He made the
honor roll as a student in North
eastern High School and had
time, in addition to earning his
way to college, for ROTC and a

TEL-AVIV, Israel—A cursory
glance at the membership rolls
of the Association of Americans
and Canadians in Israel is an
indication that the American
Middle West is adding a spot
of color of its own on the
Middle East in an already col-
orful Israeli pop -alation.
The Association numbering
some 12,000 Americans and
Canadians is a mutual, self-
help organization, aiding its
members in establishing them-
selves in the new environment
of Israel. And while a great
number are so-called senior
citizens, the vast majority are
still in their prime of young
adulthood, and are fast becom-
ing rooted in the soil of Eretz
Israel.
