Dr. Shlomo Bickel, author, lit-
erary critic and columnist for
the Day-Jewish Journal, will dis-
cuss the life and writings of
his close personal friend, the
late H. Leivick, poet-laureate of
the Yidish-speaking world, at a
special program in tribute to
the writer, sponsored by the
Yiddish Culture Committee of
the Jewish Community Council
8 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish
Center.
Announcement of the event
was made by Jack Malamud,
Yiddish Culture C o m m ittee
chairman, and Irving Pokemp-
ner and Sidney M. Shevitz,
chairman and co-chairman, re-
spectively, of the Council's Cul-
ture Commission.
Bickel served
as president of
the Yiddish
PEN Club and
is also a mem-
ber of the Re-
search Commis-
sion of YIVO
(Jewish Scien-
tific Institute)
and of the Con-
gress for Jel,y-
ish Culture.
Among the
books he has

Sislin of the Yiddish Culture
Committee. MOshe Haar, direc-
tor of the Sholem Aleichem In-
stitute,'will read selections from
Leivick's writings.
Leivick, who served on the
editorial board of "Zukunft"
was active in YIVO and the Yid-
