Dr. Shlomo Bickel, author, lit- erary critic and columnist for the Day-Jewish Journal, will dis- cuss the life and writings of his close personal friend, the late H. Leivick, poet-laureate of the Yidish-speaking world, at a special program in tribute to the writer, sponsored by the Yiddish Culture Committee of the Jewish Community Council 8 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish Center. Announcement of the event was made by Jack Malamud, Yiddish Culture C o m m ittee chairman, and Irving Pokemp- ner and Sidney M. Shevitz, chairman and co-chairman, re- spectively, of the Council's Cul- ture Commission. Bickel served as president of the Yiddish PEN Club and is also a mem- ber of the Re- search Commis- sion of YIVO (Jewish Scien- tific Institute) and of the Con- gress for Jel,y- ish Culture. Among the books he has written are "A "Shtot mit Bickel Y i d n," Detain un Sach. Haklen," "Yidn Dave- nen," "Essayen fun Yiddishen Troier," "Drei Brider Zenen Mir. Gwen" and "Shreiber Fun Mein Dor." The special program in tribute to Leivick will be conducted un- der the chairmanship of David Sislin of the Yiddish Culture Committee.
