Histadrut Will Launch $150,000

Detroit Chapters, Women's Monday at the Reynold's Build-

Jan. 15 will mark the official
opening of the 1963 Histadrut
Campaign. An effort to reach at
least 50 percent of the local
$150,000 quota will be made be-
tween now and that date.
Morris Lieberman, chairman
of the campaign, reports that
the results so far are "very en-
couraging — the ranks of the
contributors have been swelled
by many new friends of Hista-
drut this year due to the in-
creased interest of Detroiters in
the many vital activities spon-
sored by Histadrut in Israel to
assist the present mass immigra-
tion."
Ambassador Katriel Katz, the
newly appointed Consul-General
of Israel in
New York, will
address the
opening event
8 p.m. Jan .
15 at the La-
bor Zionist
Institute.
Tova Porat,
who has been
acclaimed and
praised in
Tova Porat American mu-
sic circles for her excellent
operatic renditions, will be
the guest artist. She performed
at the recent national conven-
tion of Histadrut in New York.
Sholem Aleichem Will
Honor Memory of Late
Poet H. Leivick
An evening's program dedi-
cated to the memory of the late
Jewish poet H. Leivick, who
died last week, heads the agen-
da of activities at the Sholem
Aleichem Institute,
The memorial meeting will
be held 9 p.m. Jan. 11 and will
be devoted to readings from
Leivick's works and commen-
tary by Moishe Haar and Mor-
ris Becker on his role in Jewish
literature. Some of the poems,
which have been set to music,
will be sung. The public is
invited.
The Sholemates Group will
hold a supper meeting and so-
cial Jan. 12. Chapter Two of the
Institute will hold a supper
meeting on Jan. 20, featuring
movies of Institute activities.
Dr. Herman Jacobs, director
of the Hillel Foundation at the
University of Michigan, will
lecture 9 p.m. Jan. 25 at the
Institute.
The Sholem Aleichem School
will hold open house 10 a.m. to
noon Jan. 13. Parents of the
children are invited. Those oth-
ers who may wish to visit class-
rooms should call VE 8-7440.

Histadrut will honor Pioneer
Women of Detroit with an after-
noon tea 12:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at
the Hayim Greenberg Center,
19161 Schaefer. Guest speaker
will be Mrs. S. L. A. Marshall,
who will speak on her experi-
ences in Israel last summer.
An added feature will be the
first public showing of the new
Histadrut film produced and di-
rected by Frank Sinatra Studios.
This film shows Frank Sinatra
during his recent visit to Israel.
Mrs. Belle Glenner, the Hista-
drut divisional chairman of the
Pioneer Women's Organization,
has announced that there will
be a special prize for which
everyone is eligible who has
turned in a pledge in support
of the 1963 Histadrut Campaign.
There will be no admission
charge. The public is invited.

national fame as an author of
many humorous tales and as an
outstanding story-teller, will be
the guest speaker at the donor
event.

peau de lange lace and a full
front panel of matching lace
touching the hem of the floor-
length dovie-shaped skirt which
fell into a chapel train of ivory
peau de sole. Her crown was of
matching lace with appliques of
tiny pearls and a pouf veil of
ivory silk illusion.
JoAnn Weissman was maid of
honor. Mrs. Victor Koblin was
bridesmaid. Martin Weissman
was best man. Ushers were Dr.
Allan Soble, Daniel Pevos,
Thomas Altshuler and Dr. Stu-
art Bernstein.
The couple departed for a
Miami Beach honeymoon and
will live in Southfield.

National ATID Board
Detroit ATID, the college-age
organization, sponsored by the
Conservative synagogues of
greater Detroit, announces that
two of its officers have been
elected to executive positions
on the national ATID board.
Stephanie Shapiro, who now
serves as president of the De-
troit chapter, was elected na-
tional recording secretary, and
Allan Gould, Detroit vice presi-
dent, was elected national sec-
ond vice-president. Both Steph-
anie and Allan also serve as
advisors to the United Syna-
gogue Youth Groups at Cong.
