JERUSALEM, (JTA)—Hanan
Rubin, a deputy speaker of the
Knesset, and a member of the
House since 1949, died Oct. 24
at the age of 54.
Born in Germany, Rubin set-
tled in Palestine in 1933 and
became active in the Hashomer
Hatzair, the Mapam youth move-
ment, and, after the establish-
ment of the State, he became a
Mapam Knesset member. He
had been a delegate to a mem-
ber of the World Zionist Con-
gresses.

Leader Franco Dies

NEW YORK, (JTA) — Funer-
al services were held today for
Reuben D. Franco, executive
director of the Zionists-Revision-
ists of America, who died here
Oct. 27. He w as 54. He had re-
turned from a three-week visit
to Israel.
A native of Bulgaria, Franco
headed the Betar movement in
that country before emigrating
to Palestine in 1939. He was on
the general staff of the Irgun
underground movement, and was
active in the Herut party after
the establishment of the State of
Israel in 1948:
