Mrs. Lewis S. Grossman, Detroit civic and welfare leader,
will leave New York via plane on Oct. 26 as part of a 25-member
group of United Jewish Appeal National Women's Division
leaders for a three-week survey of UJA-financed welfare and
immigrant-aid programs in Europe and Israel.
A delegation of Michigan members of Women's American
ORT (Organization through Rehabilitation and Training) will
leave Monday for Miami Beach to attend the national board
conference of the organization Oct. 23-25 at the Hotel Fountain-
bleau. Delegates include Mrs. N. H. Schlafer, president of Michi-
gan Region; Mrs. Max Beal, Mrs. Irvin Kurtz and Mrs. Harold
Kukes. Members of the. national board who will attend also are
Mrs. Harry. Becker and Mrs. Henry Pariser.
Mrs. Robert Alpern of Fairfield Ave., chairman of the
League of Women Voters, has planned a Japanese tea for the
League's opening meeting 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Inter-
national Institute.
The Kaplan Family Club will meet 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the

Instituting what is planned
to be the first of an annual
series of city-wide inter-faith
assemblies, in tribute to the
memory of a former president
of the organization, Metropoli-
tan Detroit Bnai Brith Council
will present a civic award to
Monsignor Clement Kern of the
Holy Trinity Church 8:30 p.m.
Oct. 21 at Cong. Bnai Moshe,
14390 W. Ten Mile, Oak Park.
The announcement was made
by Melvin Weisz, chairman of
the Citizenship and Civic Af-
fairs Committee of the Council.
The plaque to be presented
Monsignor Kern will be given
"as a tribute to his long, sin-
cere, and devoted service to the
betterment of human relation-
ships and community under-
standing for many years." Judge
Wade H. McCree, Jr., of the
United States District Court in
Detroit, will deliver the prin-
ciple address at the assembly,
with the presentation to be
made by Judge Victor J. Baum
of the Wayne County Circuit
Court.
The award is being presented
in the memory of the late
Maxwell M. Lowe, who was
president of the Metropolitan
Detroit Bnai Brith Council sev-
eral years ago. His devotion to

the cause of better understand-
ing in promoting the purpose
of Bnai Brith, the largest Jew-
ish service organization in the
world, was considered worthy
of memorializing.
There will be no admission
charge to the program. The
public is invited.

raising donor luncheon Nov. 13 at Town and Country Club.

eighth annual Leadership Train-
