MISS ELAINE PHILLIPS
At a recent family dinner, the
engagement of Elaine Carole
Phillips to Kenneth Harvey Sher-
man was announced.
The bride-elect is the daughter
of Mrs. Betty Phillips of Rose-
lawn Ave. and the late Henry
Phillips. Her fiance is the son
of Mrs. Fannie Sherman of Pen-
nington Dr. and the late Reubin
Sherman. A Jan. 6, i.963, wed-
ding is planned.
Social Singles Meet
The Social Singles will meet
8 p.m. Sunday at the Jewish
Center for a lecture and a so-
cial hour. Refreshments will be

Mr. and Mrs. George Fleischer, Marsha and Barry Fleischer
and Mrs. Irving Lieberman have returned from a trip to Des
Moines, Iowa, where their daughter and sister, Mrs. Rochelle
Lieberman, was graduated from the College of Education at
Drake University.
Mrs. Rose Ankerman and her sister. Fay Oberman, have
moved into their new home on Kenosha Ave., Oak Park.
Rev. Samuel S. Schwartz and his wife, Mina, of Mt. Clemens
have returned from an extensive trip through Israel and Europe
while celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Rev. Schwartz
is president of the Beth Tefilath Moses Synagogue in Mt.
Clemens.
The Sherman Family Club on Sept. 2 gave a farewell dinner-
iarty in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Wolfgang and daughter,
Harcia, who are moving to Miami, Fla. The affair was held at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey Gordon, 18938 Roselawn.
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel B. Danto, 26725 Hendrie, Huntington
Woods, on Sept. 5 celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.
They are the parents of Dr. Arthur Colman Danto, professor of
philosophy at Columbia University, and Dr. Bruce Leonard Danto,
a Detroit physician. The Dantos have five grandchildren.
Helping to celebrate the Bar Mitzvah this weekend of Howard
Franklin Fridson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Y. Fridson of
Hartwell Ave., are Mr. and Mrs. Barry Sanderson of Calgary,
Alberta, Canada, and Mi. and Mrs. Lawrence Mazel of Louisville,
Kentucky.
Mrs. Morris Adler will be the fashion commentator for the
Dior-Israel Fashion Festival Champagne Dinner-Dance to be held
at the Knollwood Country Club Sept. 26, under the sponsorship
of the Israel Bond Women's Division. Mrs. Henry Pariser is the
fashion festival chairman.
Benee Lieberman, daughter of the Mack Liebermans, has
returned from an extended visit in Seattle, Wash. While visiting
the World's Fair, she was the guest of her aunt and uncle, former
Detroiters Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Grossberg.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris L. Waxman, of .20271 *Burt Road, are
entertaining their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray-
mond J. Waxman, who were recently married in Mexico City.
The newlyweds will make their home in Manhattan Beach, Calif.,
where he will resume his teaching of Speech Therapy. A wedding
party was given by her sister, Mrs. Richard Gold, and aunts,
Mesdames Joseph Fogelson, Manny Mackie, Charles Makie,
Morey Pollack, Ruth Striefling and Edward Waxman.
Bnai Brith Windsor
Lodge Wins 3rd
Prize for Publication
It has been announced by Ed-
ward E. Grusd, editor of the
National Jewish Monthly, that
the. Bnai Brith Reporter, a pub-
lication of Windsor Lodge Bnai
Brith, has been awarded third
prize in the Printed Division
of the national Bnai Brith bul-
letin contest.
Hundreds of lodges and chap-
ters throughout the United
States and Canada entered the
various divisions of the contest
this year.
Although the Bnai Brith Re-
porter of the Windsor Lodge
has previously, and also this
year, received awards for its
publication from the Eastern
Canadian Council of Bnai Brith,
this is the first time in the his-
tory of the lodge that the Re-
porter has received a prize in
the national contest.
Myer Dorn, a past president
of the Windsor Lodge, is editor
of the publication. A plaque
will be presented to Dorn_ at a
forthcoming- meeting.
