Nazis Who Picketed
Bnai Brith Office
PHILADELPHIA, (J T A) —
Three members of the American
Nazi Party, two of them in uni-
forms emblazoned with swastika
armbands. were escorted by po-
lice here to the city limits and
ordered to move on.
They had staged a demonstra-
tion in front of the Philadelphia
office of the Anti-Defamation
League of Bnai Brith.
The Nazis had come here by
automobile from their headquar-
ters at Arlington, Va. A crowd
of about 500 persons gathered
near the Nazis as they started
picketing the ADL office. Police
said they were forced to remove
the pickets as the crowd had
become hostile and shouted
threats against the pickets.
PARIS (JTA) — Five more
Jews have been condemned to
death in the Soviet Union recent-
ly for "economic crimes," accord-
ing to reports made public in
Soviet newspapers arriving here.
Two of the death sentences
were meted out to Jews after a
trial in Odessa, where two other
Jews were given heavy prison
sentences. This report was print-
ed in Pravda Ukrainy, official
organ of the Ukrainian Commun-
ist Party.
The June 12 issue of that news-
paper lists the condemned as
Binyamin A. Gulko and Moshe
A. Fuchs.
The newspaper reported that
an eight-year prison sentence was
given by the same court to Betya
B. Rothstein, and a five-year sen-
tence was imposed on Tzila G.
Lapidus. All four had been ac-
cused, the Communist newspaper
stated, of "dealing in foreign cur-
rency."

in Russian City
LONDON, (JTA) — A syna-
gogue at Mikha Tskhakaya, a
Soviet town in western Georgia,
near the Black Sea, was burned
down as a result of a fire de-
liberately started by "hooligans,"
according to information reach-
ing here from Moscow. The syna-
gogue was totally destroyed.
Mikha Tskhakaya is a city of
22,000 population, big enough by
provincial standards to contain
a sizeable Jewish community. 8o-
viet authorities were reported
investigating the origin of the
fire which took place on May 1,
the most important national holi-
day in the entire Soviet Union.
Thus far, there is no information
as to whether anyone has been
arrested.

JERUSALEM — A group of
Israeli scientists will participate
in the Eighth Congress of Can-
cer Research, to be held in Mos-
cow next month, it was an-
nounced here Tuesday.
Among the Israelis will be
members of the faculties and Re-
search specialists from the He-
brew University and the Weiz-
mann Institute of Science, as well
as a number of physicians en-
gaged in this country in clinical
research on cancer.
Another Israeli-USSR liaison
was announced Tuesday when Dr.
Zvi Harkavi, director of the Cen-
tral Rabbinical Library of Israel,
returned from a visit, lasting sev-
eral weeks, to the leading lib-
raries of Moscow and Leningrad.
Rabbi Harkavi announced he
has obtained an agreement with
the Leningrad Library permit-
ting Israeli researchers to re-
ceive photostatic copies of He-
brew manuscripts there. He said
that the library in Leningrad has
12,000 Hebrew manuscripts and
20,000 Jewish books. Moscow's
Lenin Library, he said, has 60,000
Jewish books, including thousands
of works published in Israel.

the 18 were named, and at least
