Pupils of synagogues, religious
schools and all Jewish commu-
nity educational institutions will
again "go all out" in their tree
planting efforts on this year's
Tu B'Shevat, 5722, according to
an announcement by Dr. Israel
Wiener, chairman of the Jewish
National Fund Education and
Youth Committee.
Although Tu B'Shevat, the
15th day in the month of Shevat,
comes on Jan. 20, the schools
initiate their tree planting pro-
grams about the beginning of the
month of Shevat, which in 1962
will be Jan. 6.
Tu B'Shevat is the traditional
Arbor Day in Israel and is cele-
brated there as a day of planting
trees. It especially involves the
children in the schools, and cere-
monies and rituals of tree plant-
ing take place all over the coun-
try. Tu B'Shevat, or Chamisha
Assar B'Shevat, is also observed
throughout the world by Jews as
the New Year of the Trees.
The trees planted by the stu-
dents of the schools will be, un-
less otherwise indicated, part of
the American Children's Forest
within the American Freedom
Forest of 2,000,000 trees.
