Assails Critics of JWV

Editor, The Jewish News:
It is indeed a sad commentary
on Jewish life in America, or
anywhere, when Jewish organ-
izations with authority and re-
sponsibility would rather waste
their time and money to prove
claims of exaggeration in num-
bers of Nazis in our borders,
rather than thank Herman
Horsby, JWV agent, for bring-
ing to the American public's at-
tention that there actually are
Nazis present (even one) in our
midst' (Jewish News, Oct. 13,
Pg. 6).
J. L. Fishbein of the Sentinel
of Chicago and William Pinsley
of the Anti-Defamation League,
both whom are guilty of crit-
icism herein, shouldn't be sur-
prised if they are • included in
the 90 per cent of Jews to be
exterminated in Lincoln Rock-
well's leaflet proposals on a
previous incident.
It is odd when we widely pub-
licize discrimination t o w a r d
Jews in the social aspect, but
fear publicity in the more seri-
ous Nazi activities.

Nazis in W. Germany

Editor, The Jewish News:
In reference to your article
on the, Russian poet (censured
for attack on anti-Semitism), I
cannot see the purpose of spend-
ing time, effort, etc., on such
things which are not the most
important things of the moment
to the Jews or the rest of the
world.
. West Germany is operated
and directed, in the govern-
mental, military and social
areas, by the same men who
threw children out of windows
and by such worse ones who did
not do it themselves, but were
responsible. This begins right
from Adenauer, who' appointed
many of them, beginning with
Hans Globke.

his Bar Mitzvah, when he hasn't
learned enough, and his wed-
ing, when he is thoroughly
"farmisht" (confused).
Ironically, a Bar Mitzvah boy
couldn't wait his big day and
when he received $2,000 worth
of envelopes, he gave his father
a loan (at 6 per cent interest).
Unfortunately, the Hebrew
langauge was partly strange to
him, in order to appreciate more
the meaning of this big event.
Nevertheless, a boy after 13
could and should enjoy the riches
of our Jewish life by reading The
Detroit Jewish News, a newspa-
per that covers subjects concern-
ing us and our children.
A subscription to this fine
weekly would make a big gift to
our youth. It will take their mind
away from other papers with
senseless and demoralizing
"news" of holdups, murders, rap-
ings, etc.
Instead he'll learn more about
the rich inheritance our people
were given by our famous fore-
fathers, it will give him a reason
to be a good American and a
proud Jew, something we all
want from our children instead
of "just a Jew by birth."

Issue of Judaica Post
Deals with Maimonides,
Jews' Affinity to Chess

An article by Isaac Franck
of Washington, D.C., on "The
Legacy of Maimonides" is the
cover story of the September
issue of the Judaica Post, a
journal of philatelic Judaica,
edited and published in Detroit
by Eli Grad.
According to the article, Is-
rael issued, in 1953, a- stamp
featuring the portrait of Rabbi
Moses Maimon (Maimonides)
commemorating the seventh in-
ternational congress of the His-
tory of Science held in Jeru-
salem in August, 1953.
Franck, who is executive di-
rector of the Jewish Community
Council of Greater Washington,
D.C., deals with Maimonides'
contributions and influences on
the world and gives us an in-
sight to "one of the great en-
cyclopedic minds of Western
civilization."
The journal also features an
article by Harold Alter of
Toronto, Ont., 'on "The Game
of Kings," in which he deals
with "the predominance of .Jews
among chess champions," and
the "so-called Jewish affinity to
the Game of Kings."'
