A "revolutionary change" in
the role of the U.S. Supreme
Court during the past quarter-
century was reported by the
American Jewish Congress in
its annual survey of the court's
civil rights and civil liberties
decisions.

With hope in their hearts
and by the sweat of their
brows the pioneers of Degania
created a 20th century utopia,
which lighted the path for
others to follow. Today there
are well over 200 kibbutzim,
almost all on land acquired
by the Jewish National Fund,
which form the backbone of
the young nation. It was De-
gania's unique blend of theory
and practice that created a
democratic communal way of
life.
The names of Joseph and Mi-
riam Baratz, Joseph Bussel,
Moshe Barsky, Yitzchak Ben
Yaakov and Dr. Arthur Ruppin,
will forever be associated with
Degania. Yosef Trumpeldor
lived and worked at Degania for
a time. Among the immortals of
Degania was A. D. Gordon, who
had migrated from Russia in
1904.
Today, as the world pays its
respects to the mother of the
kibbutzim, celebrating its
golden jubilee, two of its found-
ers are still hale and hearty,
Joseph and Miriam Baratz.
