that Miss Samuels has touched
upon the major factors in Ben-
Gurion's life, will undoubtedly
make her book most acceptable.
Robert St. John's two books on
Ben-Gurion—one biography for
adults and another for younger
readers—is in entirely differ-
ent style, and the Samuels-St.
John Works become supplemen-
tary.
Miss Samuels is especially ef-
fective when she describes Ben-
Gurion's approach to the needs
of the Negev, his settlement in
Sdeh Boker, his transformation
from statesman to farmer — or
rather, his ability to remain a man
of the people while a farmer and
at the same time devoting himself
to state duties, as was indicated
in his return to his government's
service as son as the crisis pre-
ceding the Sinai Campaign called
him back to duty.
The developments revolving
around the 1956 campaign
against Egypt and adequately
described to indicate the ability
of Ben-Gurion to deal with a
critical situation. • •

Home from Tunisia

PARIS, (JTA) — More than
100 French Jews arrived in
Marseilles and Paris from Tu-
nisia as part of a large-scale
exodus of . Frenchmen returning
to Metropolitan France due to
the tension between the two
countries since the Bizerte
affair last month.
The returning Jews told com-
munity workers here that they
decided to leave Tunisia as
Frenchmen, not as Jews.
The Fond Social Juif Unifie
opened up temporary welfare
offices in Marseilles where most
of the repatriates arrived, but
less than a score of families
were in need of assistance.
Most returning Jews have fam-
ily ties in France and it is
hoped they will easily be re-
settled in the French economy.
Although the emigration gate
from Tunisia still stands wide
open, few Tunisian Jews are
known to have left the country.
No anti-Jewish measures have
been adopted by the Tunisian
authorities and the country's
Jewish community was reported
to be "as quiet as can be ex-
pected under the circum-
stances."
